At College Ave. Friends the local United Society of Friends Women (USFW) is called Martha Faye Circle and is named after two women who held important positions in its early days. One purpose of USFW is to provide financial support for the missionaries of Friends United Meeting in Kenya, Jamaica, Ramallah, Cuba, Belize, and among Native Americans in the U.S. Some local ministries are also supported. A second equally important purpose is to provide opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth among the women of our fellowship.
Our group is intergenerational, and we meet monthly from September through May. We utilize written materials from the USFW International, along with discussions, special speakers and hands-on craft activities. All women of the church are encouraged to attend. We have great times of fun and fellowship and we always include delicious refreshments!
Martha Faye Circle also participates in the activities of Iowa USFW, including Fall Retreat, Spring Fling, and the August Celebration of Service. We are affiliated with USFW International, using their program materials and participating in the annual reading course for spiritual growth. USFWI cooperates with Quaker Men to sponsor an international conference every three years. Recent conferences have been held in Kenya, East Africa and Indianapolis, IN. The 2016 conference will be held in Cedar Rapids, IA.
